The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) is going to take decision on allowing more options in TLD s (Top Level Domain names).Later this week ICANN will take decision on allowing companies/individuals to purchase new TLD of their own choice.
so insted of having .com/.net/.org/.in companies could take their brandname as TLD to the end of their URL.
for example, google could become .google or ibm could become .ibm
Even cities countries could name like .india .usa or .delhi
Dont think of running for your name as TLD. Its not that much easy. The exact price is not yet known, but will be around $50K. and that too will be ready by 2009. ICANN is expected to give priority to companies with trademarked names to deter cybersquatters.
