APGenco Assistant Engineer(Electrical) exam syllabus
syllabus for APGenco assistant engineer post. APGenco announced the syllabus for competitive exam for recuritement of Assistant Engineers(AE) for 2007.

SYLLABUS FOR THE COMPETETIVE TEST FOR THE RECRUITMENT OF ASSISTANT ENGINEERS (ELECTRICAL)
1. ELECTRICAL CIRCUITS AND NETWORKS:
Kirchhoff’s laws, mesh and node analysis, network theorems, sinusoidal steady state analysis of single phase and three phase circuits, resonance, transient response of RL, RC, RLC circuits for different inputs, two-port networks, Two element network synth
esis.
2. CONTROL SYSTEMS:
Modelling of physical systems, Block diagrams and signal flow graphs, Time and frequency domain analysis, Steady state errors, Routh’s criterion, Nyquist and Bode plots, compensation, root loci, elementary ideas of state variable analysis, control system components .
3. MEASUREMENTS AND INSTRUMENTATION:
SI units, measurement of current, voltage, power, power-factor and energy, Measurement of resistance, inductance, capacitance and frequency-bridge methods, transducers and their applications to the measurement of non-electrical quantities like temperature, pressure, strain, displacement etc., cathode ray oscilloscope.
4. ANALOG AND DIGITAL ELECTRONICS:
Characteristics of diodes, BJT, FET, SCR, Amplifier biasing, equivalent circuits, freque
ncy response, feedback amplifiers, power amplifiers, oscillators ,operational amplifiers and applications, wave shaping circuits, multivibrators, flip-flops, universal gates, combinational circuits, A/D and D/A converters .
5. ELECTRICAL MACHINES AND POWER ELECTRONIC DRIVES:
Single phase transformer; equivalent circuit, tests, regulation and efficiency, three phase transformer connections parallel operation, auto transformer, principle of energy conversion, windings of rotating machines, DC generators and motors, characteristics, starting and speed control, three phase induction motors performance characteristics, starting and speed control, single phase induction motors, synchronous generators, performance, regulation, parallel operation, synchronous motors, starting characteristics and applications, synchronous condensers, fractional horse power motors, permanent magnet and stepper motors, Characteristics of Power electronic devices, phase control, bridge converters, choppers and inverters, basic concepts of adjustable speed drives.
6. POWER SYSTEMS:
Electrical power generation thermal, hydro, nuclear: transmission line parameters; steady state performance of overhead transmission lines and cables, surge propagation, distribution systems, insulators, bundle conductors, corona, and radio interference effects; per-unit quantities: bus admittance and impedance matrices: load flow: voltage control and power factor correction; economic operation, symmetrical components, analysis of symmetrical and unsymmetrical faults; principles of over current, differential and distance protections, circuit breakers, concept of system stability, swing curves and equal area criterion.

I think last year(2006) people got interview calls for
OC: 76 marks
BC: 72 marks
SC/ST: 69 Marks
Last time(2006) APGenco called for interview in the ratio 1:4. but this time its only 1:2
but this year (2007) one may get interview call for 65-75 marks.

In Last year (2007) notification there were 162 seats for Electrical. this year, 170 seats for EEE.

J B Gupta’s book is a good one. Galgotia’s Book is now in market. and so many felt that its better to JB Gupta’s. and one more r k rajput…

APtransco notification will come in December first week (99.9% Sure!!!!).
Syllabus will be almost equal to APGENCO AE Syllabus.

APGENCO results are announced highest marks is 77.
for minimum cut-off OC 60-65
bc 53-60
sc & st 35-40.
this is only minimum cut-off .iam not sure some times it may vary.

U r qualified in the exam. but there are only 170 vacancies and they call only 340 members for interview. U may not get call easily.
If people from BC-D Category, are very less ( who scored more than u) then u may get call.

Getting Distinction in B.Tech or not is the point at interview. Already they tested our knowledge in subject. so now, they will interview only our ‘communication skills’ and not subject. If u have any masters degree…. thats a good point. but they don’t consider that only. Mainly they focus on your communication skills, and Group discussion.

39 marks…is not sufficient to get call for interview. Nearly 2000+ people got more than 39 marks. but only 170 vacancies. but if SC girls are less in number, who scored more than u… then only u may get a call.

yeah! 79 seats are there for OC boys and Girls. in that 26 are for OC girls. so OC boys will get 53 seats.
All numbers are not 100% correct. but 99.9% correct.

girls have 33 1/3 reservation on whole quota for every category. So OC boys have only nearly 53 seats.

Arre chod de yaar… take it easy. U got good marks. but there are only 190 seats. Even my friend who scored 55, didn’t get any call.
APTransco Notification may come at any time. It got clearance from AP Finance dept. and the file is at APtrasnco Chairman’s desk. once he signed…notification will be announced.
As for as I know, Notification is for 320 seats.

hi this is sneha.in interviw there will be a GD.in that GD one general topic nd one subject topic.in general topic the previous years topics are dwacra project,HRD,ISI mark…..like.in our subject they will ask abt speed control,protection like.this inf is given by one of AE who got job in apgenco in last year

Thank you for your response, as i got only 56.7% in Btech(EEE) so i think this will be not suffice for me with this percentage in this era(in this competitive world). so thats the reason i wanted to do my PG course and get the good % atleast in the PG. as u r aware that almost all r asking the minimum of 60% in any type of job, so i feel my self ashamed for not elgible for the written test.so i wanted to do the PG course under any circumstances. plz give the relevant information and i will be very much thankful to u and onething i wanted to tell u that University of HYD is offering the PGDiploma in Energy Management(Jan 2008) is this will be good and also the IGNOU offers the Advanced Certificate in Power Distribution Management(Jan 2008) is this will be helpful for my future and convey this to all of our frnd Regarding the UoH & IGNOU.

The courses u said are good. but I am finding something which suits best for you. and Annamalai university has also lot of courses for u. VLSI Design, embeeded systems. Dec 15 th is last date to apply. I think thats correct for u.
CDAC is also offering those courses. but I think CDAC charges a lot. U inquire the fee.

Why you are losing hopes on APtransco. NEVER GIVE UP. 47 marks in APgenco is a good score. This time work on Electronics and Digital electronics also. U will certainly get it. I am sure.
Embeeded systems and VLSI …. both are good. take any one as per your interest. I prefer Embeeded systems. Morris mano is a standard book. but do we have time to study such a long book?
Annamalai university is also offering those 2 courses by corrrespondence. have a look. all the best.

hello,
sir i got 69.2% in my B.TECH (EEE). can i apply for power grid corporation of india.in genco i got 56 marks but, iam not called for interview so, how can i through the written exam in power grid ? i have no hopes but,iwill try my level best.can u suggest me some good objective books for electrical ?
in which place power grid conduct the written exam ?
is thr any center in hyderabad ?

power grid india exam paper pattern
total time duration 120 minutes
there are 2 sections consisting of 180 bits:
1)120 objective type questions are given on technical knowledge i.e..,electrical or electrical & electronics or power engg,related their branch.
2)60 questions are given on reasoning,verbal,aptitude,logical,english,n some more

sir i noted that who called for interview has marks
less than 50 also like 41, 43 ,47 ….etc
those people got the interview call.in 100 nos min 15 members got less than 50 and they got call letter .from which category they belongs to….?

Brother, tough question yaar….. If I were you, I go for M.Tech. coz, once I joined in job… Its hard to do M.Tech. ( not at all impossible… but somewhat hard )…. Ask your employee to wait till your course ends. by 2nd year u will be free. let me know what decission u had taken.

hi venugopal…ies exam is for 3 days 1st day it would be general ability test, 2nd day its multiple choice questions for technical subjects(part1 and part 2 i hope u know the syllabus) ,3rd day its conventional test for same part 1 and part 2 subjects.
for ies it needs serious preparation of one year, u need to cover atleast two text books for each subject.compared to gate paper ies bits will be easier .,for conventional test u can mostly expect previous questions

sir,yesterday(12th) my sister attend for genco interview,all qualified candidates must should bring one set of xerox copies(including call letter& hall ticket),this is not mentioned in call leter.total 64 memders are daily called,64 can be devided into 4 batches, each batch having 16 members,for one batch time one and halfhour(01:30).in group discussion first all members are tels our self details,after one technical topic and one non technical topic are given,first technical topic given,in this topic every member talking about topic,and second topic started with last member,in this arguments are not included,every member talk in mick,is just like round table conference. 12th first bath topics are EXCITATION SYSTEMS & INSPIRING PERSON, second batch TRANSFORMERS&EFFECT OF MEDIA ,third batch THERMAL POWER PLANT . sir this is useful for all selected candidates,so please inform all,endukante meeru chebitene responce istaru,na final year project gurinchi evaru oka responce ivvaledu,sir one set xerox copies must,nenu kuda sister to vellanu.

Thanks for your kind comments. B.E/B.Tech/AMIE or equivalent degree holders are eligible for APPSC (ELectrical). We have only 28 posts in R&B Dept. I think u r B.Tech (EEE).

so for conventional part in IES exam u need to be thorough with the complete text book for each subject….it would be better if u refer last years questions,mostly u’ll get repeated questions for conventional part…..be through with derivations part….and few lenghty problems

You need atleast 60% to apply for any good job. So score more in final year…so that u can get 60% overall. For SC/ST they ask for only 55%.

God knows, when the notification will come out from APTRANSCO. As for as I know, notification is getting late… But It will come sure, so dont waste time and prepare yourself, if u want to apply.
